SUMMARY:LLELA KAYAK ECO-TOUR -June
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a eco-tour kayak river trip down the Elm Fork of the Trinity River from the Lake Lewisville Environmental Learning Area (LLELA) or as we like to call her the La Santísima Trinidad. This\, the most Holy Trinity\, via Alonso De León from about 1690. Yes it seems this lovely river has been inspiring folks in this area for quite some time! \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Eco-Tour Safety talk starts a little after 9:00 am and were paddles wet at 10am sharp\, miss the safety talk and you miss the river too\, your safety is our top priority! \n\n\n\nWe plan on 6 river miles and we start and stop a lot depending on the nature of what we see\, hear\, and do along the trip. We have in the past encountered deer\, bobcats\, maybe a wolf\, beaver\, nutria\, armadillos\, Bald Eagle\, osprey\, many many hawks\, kingfishers\, great blue Herons\, snowy egrets\, and lot more birds too. We have seen several types of turtles\, lots of water snakes\, and all types of amphibians too. \n\n\n\nBesides the critters\, you will see some unique fauna and flora as well. LLELA has some of the oldest and largest trees in the greater Dallas area\, some water specific plants\, in great abundance\, and of course\, both the man made diversion channel and the historic river channel too. \n\n\n\nWe also take a short break about 2/3 of the way in and get out perhaps a short hike\, stretch our legs\, have a snack and if the water and air temp are good\, maybe even a little dip in the river to let your inner child have some fun !!!! \n\n\n\nDirections to the event: \n\n\n\nFrom I‐35E:Exit on Valley Ridge (about one mile north of Business‐121). Go east tothe stoplight at Mill Street. Turn north (left) on Mill Street and drive toJones Street. Turn east (right) on Jones Street and proceed until JonesStreet dead‐ends at the LLELA front gate\, at the junction of JonesStreet and N. Kealy Avenue. Let Virginia know at the gate that you’re with KayakPower! \n\n\n\nDrive approximately 1 mile down the main road nearly to the damn parking lot. The drive to river access parking is to the right. You will see a sign indicating kayak-canoe launch. \n\n\n\nPlease feel free to fill out an Adult or Minor waver where applicable:Adult Waiver (http://www.kayakpower.com/kpc/www/resources/ACA_waiver_2008.adult.pdf)Minor Waiver (http://www.kayakpower.com/kpc/www/resources/ACA_waiver_2008.minor1.pdf)
