This is the heart of our instruction. We use this class as a primer for more advanced classes and instruction. We discuss in depth the different kayak designs, materials, and outfitting. In addition to a full review of required safety equipment, we will cover all the necessary strokes to locomote and maneuver your kayak. Class will include time on land and up to four hours on the water working stroke technique, self and assisted rescue, and on water kayaking manners.
Class will be based in the pavilion at Wheeler Branch Park. Please come prepared with sunscreen, drinks, snacks, lunch and clothing appropriate for the weather. If you choose to perform the rescues, you will get wet and it is recommended that you bring towel and change of clothes.
